The 8 Things Meme

Posted in general |

Got tagged by fellow Perth web person Gary!

The rules :

  1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
  2. List EIGHT random facts about yourself.
  3. Tag EIGHT people at the end of your post and list their names.
  4. Let them know they’ve been tagged.

It’s a bit hard thinking of things that anyone just passing by my blog wouldn’t know anyway, but here we go:

  1. I walk around in an almost constant daydreaming state - my eyes are almost always out of focus and not taking in things around me. Good for daydreaming; less good for sense of direction.
  2. I harbour secret dreams of designing urban vinyl toys someday, hence the new interest in clay sculpture.
  3. It bothers me that people judge me for choosing a creative career path rather than one that makes the most money.
  4. I’m not a very good driver, and even though I’ve had my license for a year I still walk or catch buses to most places I go to.
  5. Despite the fact that I almost never mention him in my blogs, I have a boyfriend who I love very much and have been with for almost 4 years :)
  6. I have an overactive imagination and am thus afraid of the dark and of horror movies.
  7. I don’t like most seafood because it tastes like the ocean.
  8. I like street art (the cool kind, not random ugly tagging) but am too much of a square to do any myself I can’t count

I’m going to break the rules and not tag 8 people for this - so if you see this and want to do the meme just comment and I’ll put a link to you up here, and we’ll pretend I chose you ^_~

Camerara!

Posted in Photos, general |

This photo sucks because of me, not the camera :)

If you can’t tell from the crappy photo above, I have a fancy new DSLR camera! I’ve had a sort of vague interest in photography for a while now, especially with quite a number of my friends being very into it and producing some amazing work. I still love my little point-and-shoot that my friends gave me for my 21st birthday, but sometimes it’s nice to sacrifice convenience for extra creative control.

On the recommendations of well… everyone based on my budget and general photography noobishness, I ended up getting a Canon 400D in a twin lens kit. With all the associated bits and pieces it ended up more spendy than I had originally thought, but I did manage to wrangle the price down a little and get a free bag, as well as getting it all duty free since I’m going to Japan soon. Interestingly the duty free store seemed to have similar or lower prices than all the camera shops that I went to even if you aren’t buying it duty free, so it worked out quite well for me.

I still don’t really know how to use it - the last time I used an SLR was when I was 14 with our highschool’s (film) cameras, and even then I don’t remember setting many manual options. I’ve been reading up enough to get a general idea but it feels like something that requires a bit of messing around with to really get the hang of. I’ve just been messing around with settings and taking photos of things around my house (most of which turned out terribly with my experimenting) and hopefully I’ll be able to talk one of my more experienced photographer friends to take me out somewhere and show me how it all works.

If anyone has any tips or reading material for me please let me know!
