Make Stuff Sunday: Vanilla Souffle

Posted in Photos |

A while ago I decided that I would try and do something creative on Sundays, like some crafts or cooking. I then had a really busy period where that wasn’t really possible. So now I’m trying to revive Make Stuff Sunday again.

This week’s adventure: soufflés! I’ve tried these a couple of times before and they’ve just collapsed as soon as i took them out of the oven. Probably mostly due to the fact that even using all of my strength and perseverance, I can’t get peaks out of egg whites with a hand whisk. Now we have an electric mixer I seem to be having more luck. Hurray!

Having never actually tasted a ‘proper’ soufflé before, I don’t know if what I’ve done is correct… but they tasted light and fluffy and delicious, so I’m going to count this as a success.

Freelancing so far

Posted in Freelancing |

So at the beginning of the year I moved from Perth to Canberra and from being a full time employee to being a freelancer. At the time I said I would post about my experiences here, but as usual life tends to interfere.

In a nutshell: things are going well. Scarily, beyond what I hoped well even. I set a goal for myself to earn as much as I would have in my previous job in the rest of the financial year, and now that I’ve sorted through my tax it looks like I’ve achieved that! I figured it would take a while to get on my feet, develop a reputation and find a steady stream of clients, but thanks to various factors, people, luck and work I seem to have hit the ground running and just kept going. I still absolutely have a long way to go, particularly in the business side to running a business, but overall I think I’m going okay!

I’m not sure how many people actually read this blog and how many people who read this are actually interested in freelancing, but if you do and you are what aspects of freelancing would you be interested in hearing about?

Handmade Market in Spring

Posted in Craft, Photos |

Just returned from another Handmade Market! I’ve been a bit too busy lately to make enough things to sell, so this time I got to be a customer and check out everyone’s stalls. I was so so impressed with the number of talented people and the quality of products here in Canberra, so much that I spent pretty much all of the cash I brought with me. Here’s my loot from the day:

Loot

Chai tea from Real Chai, kitten bag + purse from H for Handbag, cherry wine from Wombat Heights, birdie necklace from Klei

My favourite is the birdie necklace – yes, it made me think of Twitter so I had to buy it.
