I’m going to split up our honeymoon trip into a few different posts, rather than bombarding you with photos all at once!
Our first main stop, after flying in via Hanoi, was Hoi An. Hoi An is an odd sort of town – it was once a major international port city, but now caters mostly to tourists coming for the beaches or tailored clothes, which the city is well known for. My first thought was how touristy the place was for a Vietnamese city – almost half the people that you see walking around are tourists!
That said, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is beautiful and well maintained. The traffic isn’t as crazy as it is in larger cities, and even in the most touristy cafes the beer and food is still incredibly cheap. The place is full of tailor shops, and from my experimentation with two cheap shops and one expensive one – go with the well advertised and respected places, unless you have a specific recommendation. As much as I hate to admit it, this is one case where I did get what I paid for!
Next up, Hanoi!
