Weddings

Shots from last weekend’s wedding, in which two of my favourite people in the world got married. Such a joyful day, and all the more impressive for knowing how much work and organisation went into the preparations. That dress! That cake! Miss – wait, no, Mrs O should be a wedding coordinator if she wasn’t already a kickass lawyer.

Christmas Planning

Okay okay, it’s more than a month to go until Christmas and you probably hate me for posting about it. But The Boy and I are holding a Christmas dinner / tree decorating party, and with everyone’s other commitments throughout the holiday season it’s going to be in less than two weeks. That means the planning has to start now!

We’re planning to get a real tree this year, instead of a plastic one – and yes, you can get them in Australia. I’ve decided on a red and aqua colour scheme for the tree (yes of course a tree needs a colour scheme) and am having fun thinking about how I can extend it to decorating the rest of the space.

Here’s a few crafty projects I’m hoping to find some time for:

  • Maybe a light aqua tablecloth and red napkins? There’s a great tutorial here, although I now have a hem foot on my machine which should make the job much easier.
  • I think I’ll make some of these pretty paper ball ornaments for the tree, and maybe a big one or two to hang over the dining table.
  • It’s a little overplayed (or is that just for people like me who have been reading a lot of wedding blogs?) but I think I’ll take a shot at making bunting to go on the walls in the tree corner.
  • I’ve done these tissue paper pom-poms before – they’re cheap and easy, if a bit delicate to make.
  • I love the combination of brown paper with stripy red and white string or ribbons and a bit of blue embellishment!

Now to decide on the actual food part!

Happy Father’s Day!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Father’s Day, especially all the fathers out there! I’ll be celebrating with my parents tomorrow night as they’ve just gotten back from a holiday, but this morning The Boy and I put on brunch for his parents and sister. On Mother’s Day we did a fry up, so this time we decided to go sweet and make pikelets.

A sweet and simple brunch:

  • make some pancakes/pikelets/crepes (seriously, make the batter from scratch – it’s easy and so much nicer than the weird packet stuff)
  • cut up some fresh fruit and berries (we splurged on some bananas, and strawberries are in season at the moment)
  • condiments of choice (we had maple syrup, honey, lemon juice and sugar)
  • pot full of tea or coffee, or orange juice

This week

1. Busy busy; 2. Miss T’s desserts; 3. Daffodil Day;
4. Instax wall; 5. Jeff’s chargrilled beef baguette

It’s been a terribly hectic week, made worse by our broken water heater and having a day off sick. I’ve been working half the weekend to make up for it, whilst trying to fit in hosting a pizza night (of which I managed to only take a photo of the dessert, shown with Miss T above), City to Surf and all the usual weekend things. Now though I think it’s time to put away the work and enjoy a bit of Doctor Who!
