Clay Time

Posted in Art, Craft, Photos |

Due to Western Australia having the Queen’s Birthday long weekend on an arbitrary day in September so public holidays are spread around evenly, I found myself with a nice long weekend. I had planned to make some little craft thingies to sell at the opening night of the Candy Cult Character Art Exhibition, so thought I’d use the time off to get started on some small clay things.

I still have to finish most of them, but here’s a few progress shots.

The only ones I did finish are these cute strawberry earrings! I only made these two pairs but I’m quite happy with them so might make a few more. Do you think anyone would buy them?

This be me

It’s meme time!

1. Take a picture of yourself right now.
2. Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair…just take a picture.
3. Post that picture with NO editing.
4. Post these instructions with your picture.

I don’t have a webcam and left my little point-and-shoot in a friend’s car, so had to do this by setting a timer and dashing in front of the camera to pose. Notice my hair sticking up everywhere as evidence of me following the rules.

Green Moo Business Cards

Posted in Design, Photos |

I love free stuff! Last week I got my free pack of 50 full-size business cards from Moo which I won in a promotion by FreelanceSwitch. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to do a proper design as only the first fifteen people to order got them free, but I’m happy enough with how my photos from Flickr turned out. Possibly not the most professional image to present as a web designer, but people seem to like them.

I’m a bit over the typical matte laminate finish and have been more into textures lately, so the ‘green’, recycled stock option seemed the way to go. I’m very, very happy with the result - the card is nice and thick, has a subtle texture, the photos came out great and I’ve gotten a lot of comments on it when handing it out to people. Plus they come in a cool recycled box. I’m now itching for another excuse to use recycled card for something else!

I was also pretty impressed when one of the Moo staff found my photo of my cards on Flickr, left a nice comment and included it in their next blog post. It’s really nice to see how they interact with customers and build a community around their service.
